Media Blasting
The team of blasters at Protec has several decades of all different types of blasting experience. We advise on what type of blasting and media is required for your job, and we have the equipment and knowledge to perform the work. Protec specializes in the following methods of media blasting.
Soda Blasting
This non-destructive cleaning method with low abrasion is ideal for fire restoration. Soda blasting quickly removes ash and soot from walls, stone, and other building materials without harming the underlying surfaces.
Soda blasting involves non-toxic materials like bicarbonate of soda and air that carry no risk of exposure or form residue. This completely dry system eliminates water damage risks, deodorizes as it cleans, and cleans quickly and thoroughly.
Dry Ice Blasting
This method is perfect for industrial cleaning, general cleaning of manufacturing lines, food-safe manufacturing cleaning, surface preparation, and façade restoration. It’s often used in the automotive industry, aircraft and aerospace, medical and pharmaceutical operations, the pet food industry, bakery and food processing, and plastics printing.
Our Blasting Materials
Greengrit: this is a crushed glass grit made from 100% post-consumer recycled glass. It’s crushed, cleaned, sized, and packaged to provide the ideal media for an extensive range of blasting applications. Greengrit’s angular shape helps it cut through rust, paint, and oil, yet it’s lightweight enough to create a low profile on the surface.
Greengrit is available in several sizes, each one suited for a specific application. Our experience with this medium ensures we choose the right size for the job.
Greengrit is ideal for:
- Architectural etching of concrete
- Steel deck ceiling
- Structural steel
- Concrete surface prep
- Commercial pool blasting
Aluminum Oxide: this is the second-hardest mineral after diamond. It’s commonly produced by fusing by fusing raw materials like bauxite and anthracite in an electric arc furnace at high temperature. The resulting media has a high density and angular sharpness that makes it one of the fastest, most versatile, and economical cutting abrasives available.
Aluminum Oxide is used in both dry- and wet-blasting applications for cleaning, deburring, etching, and finishing.
Protec will use Aluminum Oxide for:
- Steel decks
- Ceilings
